Traveling through space has fascinated the world for years. Thus, as of 2009 New Mexico has come with a  purpose-built commercial spaceport. At this point it is the largest in the world and it was previously entitled the Southwest Regional Spaceport. The exact location of the controversial site is in New Mexico, USA in close proximity to the White Sands Missile Range.  Although the actual project started years ago, scientists have finally estimated the completion of the space port in 2011; with an area o nearly 670,00 square feet, the site will definitely keep potential tourists entertained.
In America scientists have struggled for over 2 decades to increase the significance and purpose of a spaceport. Today, the site has finally managed to achieve that long searched fame. The man who proposed for the first time the making of the location was Dr. Burton Lee, a scientist of Stanford University. After working for several years at the Mexico State University of Physical Science, Burton developed  a new concept regarding traveling through space.
During the 1990s a group of smart individuals known under the name of Southwest Space Task Force decided to take on board the idea of developing the space industry in America. Hence, after a few years of intensive research Las Cruces was the first American spaceport. In 2003 an economic development secretary under the name Rick Homans decided to handled the business and by 2006 the idea of  a massive space port grew to become more than just a simple idea.  When the entire business went on the hands of Governor Richardson, Spaceport America decided to build a partnership with Virgin Group, another controversial business directly connected to outer-space discoveries and research.
Soon enough a 20 year contract was signed between Spaceport America and Virgin Galactic. As of 2008, the space facility was about to become the main headquarters of all operations carried away by Virgin Galactic. Travelers should know that the massive construction was estimated at $198 million and its most dazzling aspect is the information provided from outer-space. Most people are wondering, how does the Spaceport work? And to begin with, you must know that it’s certainly not  a site for aliens. It’s mostly compared to an airport, only you won’t see any average planes, you’ll see spaceships and high tech airplanes. At this point. there are various tours for those interested in exploring the site.
The makers of Spaceport have high expectations from the massive site. They  have planned even a future a suborbital space-flight competition; until then, the spot is the perfect place for families with kids and groups who want to find out more about the fascinating world of traveling through space. As part of the White Sands National Monument, Space port New Mexico is like a private touristic spot filled with innovative technology and spacial opportunities. When the entire location will be finished, its centerpiece will be a trip with the Virgin Galactic spaceship. For an average cost of $200,000 per ticket, those fascinated with the outer space will have such opportunity.
